I am nearly finished with my business degree and I plan on taking that knowledge when the finances are available, and apply it to running a top notch cultivation center.  That’s right I want to avoid being a part of the retail segment altogether.  I believe the effort you put into maintaining a recreational shop when compared to the rewards is not as beneficial as people make it out to be.  Everything is heavily taxed at the retail level in Colorado right now and it’s tough to compete with all the stores operating in relatively close proximity.  Another reason I’m leaning towards cultivation only is because I believe that is where my strength really lies.  Although I’m still very young, I’ve been growing cannabis since I was nine-teen years old and have put countless hours into researching different growing methods. Since I first fell in love with the plant I’ve been reading and researching the best way to carry out every step in the seed to harvest process long before growing myself.  The most valuable knowledge I have been received came from listening to experienced growers and by experimenting myself and seeing how to actually implement things and learn from mistakes.

On the retail side you also have to deal with countless different types of inventory and manage it effectively just like any retail store.  A cultivation center’s only inventory is the large number of plants that definitely also has to be managed closely.  Plants need a lot much more care and time spent on them but they are also the only focus of the cultivation center.  Every grower has their own methods that works best for their resources and knowledge and I would use my own unique method to differentiate my product from the rest.  I believe when you focus in on one thing you can really specialize and create a well known brand name easier.  A brand name in the cannabis industry is huge.  If you read about The Clear cartridges review article I wrote, you understand what I mean by this.  I regularly seek out their brand name when making trips to the dispensary.  If I do it right I could hopefully make a similar effect but with well grown all natural bud.  Strains already differentiate one batch from another but the grower makes a far bigger difference then the strain does and that should also be made available to the consumer.

Like I said before, when the finances are there and I am in a good position to seize the opportunity this would be my dream business.  Growing quality marijuana has been one of the most rewarding skills I’ve ever experienced and to make a career out of it would be a dream come true.  Laws still stand in the way as there are no licences being issued for cultivation or dispensaries yet in Michigan.  I would rather not move and do it here in my home state that I love the most. However if the opportunity comes, I’m not going to sit back and watch it go.
