The northern lights when grown correctly will have you staring up at the night sky as if you really were in Alaska enjoying the northern lights. Besides an amazing hybrid high that you can feel throughout the entire body, the most notable trait is the flavor. It’s best described as very piney and organic and has a sweet aroma to it, especially when burned. I’ve done two separate runs of this strain now and have been impressed by the yield that these plants give. Even though she won’t reach very tall heights because of their indica dominant nature, it will branch out and still produce tons of budding sites if pruned correctly.
The flowering time for this phenotype is in the 8-9 week range although I have harvested after week 8 both times because the trichomes are really milky already at that point. If you read my previous article you’d know I’m using coco coir as my preferred grow medium and this plant responded great to it. I would definitely classify this strain as a good beginners strain for those starting out in growing because it really doesn’t pose many problems and is quick to recover from errors with nutrients, ph, etc. It definitely needs to be up kept as it will grow extremely bushy and may take up too much of your grow area if you don’t trim it up regularly during veg. Out of the 3 different strains that I have grown it is my favorite so far across all important categories. As long as you flush the plant properly at the end, the flavor should be hard to match, it’s very unique. If you’re a medical cannabis grower I would definitely add this to your garden if you have patients that are dealing with severe pain. This one works very well for those that need relief in different parts of the body. It relaxes the muscles much more then your typical hybrid or sativa strain and you can find yourself asleep before you know it with higher doses.
This strain is extremely popular and most likely would not be hard to find at your local compassion club. I have come across this strain a number of times outside of my own stash of seeds and I’m sure many of you readers have had the pleasure of trying it as well. What other medical uses have you guys found this particular phenotype to help deal with? Share your experiences with growing/sampling this strain.
I have found after using a few different types of grow mediums I have settled with coco coir as my go to. It’s best described as a soil-less medium that is like a hybrid between hydroponic growing and soil growing. It has the characteristics of hydroponic growing when it comes to oxygen level to the roots and you’ll have to add all the required nutrients externally. There are no nutrients provided in the medium at all so the feeding schedule would look much similar a hydroponic grow than a soil one. However, hydro systems usually involve placing the plant directly in nutrient solution without any kind of medium. Coco has a different texture than soil but it has to be watered by hand just like any soil plant would be watered.
If you would like to pursue this method of growing I would also suggest a few things I’ve come across when using it. Plants seem to really flourish when there is some perlite in the mixture because it adds even more aeration to the plants roots. Coco does a great job of this on its own due to its fiber like texture and plants love this mixture more than anything I’ve yet tried. Another thing to keep in mind is that the plants will have to be watered much more often than a soil plant. Just like the oxygen flows right through the medium, so does water. It doesn’t hold water and nutrients that well so you will find yourself watering every other day. This can become a problem for the avid traveler because roots could dry up on them without a consistent watering cycle.
Even taking into the consideration the negatives involved in a coco coir grow, I find it a very effective method to grow high quality cannabis. Obviously there are far more determining factors than just the grow medium but I think it can be an advantage over a traditional soil grow or difficult hydro system. For beginners it’s ideal, you just have to know the best amount of nutrients to use in feeding. This will all depend on what type of nutrients you choose as a grower. I stick with General Hydroponics but there are many different options that will vary in cost and results. Everybody grows differently and there is no doubt amazing weed that’s been grown organically in soil and in a complete hydro system, so choose what works for your environment and preference. I would highly recommend this grow medium though mostly due to the great aeration and direct grower control over nutrients in the plant.
Everyone has heard that a joint helps the day after you have a hangover and the worst headache. This actually can be applied to those of us who suffer from the physical pain involved in migraines headaches. I thought it would be helpful if I shared my own personal experience and how I’ve found what type of cannabis treatment works best to treat the horrible side effects from migraines. To this day, I’m still experimenting with the different available plant forms and strains to see what works best for not only the pain but the horrible nausea that can accompany them. The funny thing is that even if I took any of the many popular strains that are being grown today, it would still work far better than the pharmaceutical drugs I got prescribed or could have got prescribed had I continued traditional treatment. If you are in a similar situation and all you have tried are painkillers or other drugs with negative side effects, try whatever form of marijuana consumption you would be most comfortable with obtaining. There are many places even in the United States still today that don’t make it easy to find specific strains to fit your medical needs by continuing prohibition. Unfortunately all you can really do is take whatever Bob the black market dealer has, or gain the skills and equipment to produce your own medicine. It may not only reduce the discomfort you experience during an episode, but more importantly prevent the frequency that they occur in my experience. There are also new studies supporting this idea popping up the past few years.
For those of us lucky enough to live in a place where locking people in cages for having a plant has lost its popularity, we have a wide selection of not only strains but edibles, oils, drinks, lotion, and anything you could imagine. The general rule that I live by when it comes to treating my migraines is that indica dominant hybrids work best. They provide the most pain relief while relaxing the whole body making the pounding sensation much less intense and manageable. There are most definitely specific strains in this category that work better than others, but when in doubt or lacking specific info, go with this category of strains. By sedating the body and providing a lot of pain relief it makes the dizziness subside and patients able to relax. As far as consuming these strains I find smoking and vaporizing far more ideal then edibles or other methods because they take a while to produce effects. Migraine suffers much prefer immediate relief because in 40-50 minutes the worst of it likely has passed in most cases. It’s often hard to anticipate one coming until you’re already experiencing the symptoms.
Before I was being more general by saying to look for a indica dominant strain, but I would like to get more specific and point you in the direction of some strains I’ve found help me greatly. One of these are sativa dominant and that’s why the indica/sativa differentiation is only applicable in general and is not a cut and dry rule whether your talking about treating migraines or any condition. First to start off, if you can get your hands on it, is the classic and arguable most popular marijuana strain OG Kush. I think that this may be the best strain ever, not only for how much it has helped me with pain relief and nausea but it amazes me with the best effects ever. When this is professionally grown and is the authentic genetics it doesn’t get any better. Most of the good strains that took off in popularity have this in it’s genetics. It packs the punch required to treat severe pain and makes you feel extremely euphoric. Another good option that won’t put you out for the night is Tangerine Dream. I would use this if I had to work or go to college because it really finds a way to kill the pain and give motivation. There are a lot of strains that do this but the flavor on this one is amazing! Hopefully this info can lead you to the same relief I have experienced since discovering medical cannabis for myself.
I was shocked to hear late this afternoon about Trump’s press secretary Sean Spicer and his remarks about the tightening enforcement to be expected when it comes to marijuana for recreational use. At this point in time, 8 states have legalized the consumption and possession of some amount as well as already set up retail outlets in many of these states. It’s crazy to think all of a sudden they are just going to go against the will of the people who played by all the political rules for these initiatives to succeed. Right away I think this will obviously be received very negatively by the public, and they will hear tons of criticism from all sorts of people.
The other thing however is that this conference was very brief and very vague as to what this meant exactly. It could mean a whole variety of things from the extreme of no more legal marijuana in 8 states that have been reaping in the countless benefits of reduced crime rates, violence, and the list goes on. Or it could mean they are tightening the rules and making more hoops to jump through in order for there to be regulation. Either way it is not good. There was definitely a clear negative connotation associated with “recreational” use of the drug during this press conference. This is a medicine that is also something that improves the quality of life for a lot of healthy adults. Everyone has something that marijuana could help with whether thats stress, sleeping issues, depression, improving quality of life. and none of these are terminal diseases they are parts of every day life for many people. No one needs to explain their reason for use of this natural substance to anyone, even if it did have the harmful effects that society claimed it did. That’s clearly a personal choice that no one has a right to interfere with.
In some sort of effort to establish reasoning for this uncalled for intervention, he cited the rising opiate problem in the country as a reason not to legalize another substance. This is the most ridiculous thing I’ve heard in a while. The american people don’t want to hear the non factual opinions anymore. Especially after the evidence has been piling up that states with marijuana laws in effect have far lower opiod overdose and use levels. It’s a far safer alternative, not another harmful drug to “throw into the mix”. It will definitely be interesting seeing how this all unfolds and if the president will rethink this kind of approach and get on the right side of history. The truth has come out with Colorado and all the things that they claimed would go wrong never did. Now that people have seen that they are not gonna fall for the same nonsense that kept it illegal this long.
Years of propaganda have tried to form a connection between dumb/forgetful people and the use of marijuana. What is ironic about this completely inaccurate stereotype is science is now proving it can help your brain fight off the worst memory disease imaginable also known as Alzheimer’s. The same plant that has been criticized for its reputation to make the average person more lazy and stupid, could save you from a devastating fate that leaves your family members feeling strong emotional pain. The mainstream media as well as common knowledge will tell you that there is no cure for Alzheimer’s disease. However there have been many new studies connecting marijuana and THC to the prevention of protein buildup known to cause the symptoms of the disease. When there is protein buildup there is also inflammation of the neurons which cannabis has proven over and over again to reduce any type of cell inflammation.
I find all this information very fascinating even already knowing all the different medical conditions this plant can treat. This may be one of the biggest finds for the plant yet as 5.4 million Americans suffer from Alzheimers with no real light at the end of the tunnel. There are families connected to each one of these individuals so there’s even more lives that can also be positively impacted through effective cannabis treatment. Investigators at The Scripps Research Institute in California in 2006 reported that THC inhibits the enzyme responsible for the aggregation of amyloid plaque — the primary marker for Alzheimer’s disease. (Norml.org) They also found that it can be used not only to slow the progression of someone who is already been diagnosed, but for those who do not have any symptoms of the disease at all. It’s preventative and responsive treatment all in one drug. From what I have researched on forums and from people who have tried different strains as treatment the general consensus seems to be sativa works better for stimulating the mind and having conversation. It also appears people have had a lot of relief from indica as well, so I think it’s all helpful and more of a patient preference then anything.
For me, the only person in my family that suffered from this disease was my great grandmother. She passed away when I was very young and I hardly remember her, but I do remember her forgetting who the family was when we visited her in the hospital.. I can’t imagine the pain had it been someone in my immediate family or close friend. If any of my readers knows someone suffering from this disease and have had a positive experience using cannabis I would love to hear about it. I’m sure there’s tons of helpful information held by people who have actually used it as a treatment first hand. If you didn’t have any idea about cannabis potential as a natural treatment option, spread the word! This type of information should be available to everyone and we should be able to do more in depth research without any government interference. Something tells me this health information will help erase the stigma that continues to restrain this medicine.
This is a topic where I need feedback from the cannabis culture readers because I can’t find much information on this topic other than through other friends in the cannabis community. To this day I’m annoyed and confused as to why there isn’t an edible that has intoxicated me in the way it has to everyone else I’ve taken them with. There is no possibility that they were made incorrectly as I’ve tried edibles from all different sources. I’ve baked my own , purchased from dispensaries, and been given some quality samples from trusted friends. There was always no noticeable effect from any of these options and I usually ate much more then the recommended dose. It’s pretty much a completely different drug because it’s being processed by the liver and converted to 11-Hydroxy-THC. Most people would describe the effects as more intense and longer lasting then typical smoked marijuana. Like I said I’ve seen what it does to a group of people while I sit there wondering why I didn’t just smoke instead.
I do know one other friend that claims to have the same problem as I do but from research online and asking around it seems to be an extremely rare condition. It’s unfortunate and i don’t know if something is wrong with my liver that makes it unable to convert the THC or what but I wanted to reach out and hear your guy’s experiences. When you take edibles how many milligrams are you consuming at once? I’m sure previous consumption levels play an effect into how intense a edible experience will be. I consume cannabis daily, but have a hard time believing that explains I feel nothing from 300mg +of infused-cannabis foods. If I were to take a few hits of a joint or vaporizer, it would be a far more enjoyable experience to me so clearly it’s not a tolerance issue either. At this point I’ve pretty much finally given up on purchasing and consuming edibles.
I know I would definitely take advantage of this consumption method if it was effective for me and it’s actually more of a concern for me when I reach old age. Smoking might not always be a possibility or the most ideal when your body and lungs are more worn out and performing worse. Either way I plan on using cannabis especially more so when I get older to the increasing number of health problems. If I could find a way to gauge in any way how many people have this issue or know more information about what the problem might actually be please comment below and let me know!
I am nearly finished with my business degree and I plan on taking that knowledge when the finances are available, and apply it to running a top notch cultivation center. That’s right I want to avoid being a part of the retail segment altogether. I believe the effort you put into maintaining a recreational shop when compared to the rewards is not as beneficial as people make it out to be. Everything is heavily taxed at the retail level in Colorado right now and it’s tough to compete with all the stores operating in relatively close proximity. Another reason I’m leaning towards cultivation only is because I believe that is where my strength really lies. Although I’m still very young, I’ve been growing cannabis since I was nine-teen years old and have put countless hours into researching different growing methods. Since I first fell in love with the plant I’ve been reading and researching the best way to carry out every step in the seed to harvest process long before growing myself. The most valuable knowledge I have been received came from listening to experienced growers and by experimenting myself and seeing how to actually implement things and learn from mistakes.
On the retail side you also have to deal with countless different types of inventory and manage it effectively just like any retail store. A cultivation center’s only inventory is the large number of plants that definitely also has to be managed closely. Plants need a lot much more care and time spent on them but they are also the only focus of the cultivation center. Every grower has their own methods that works best for their resources and knowledge and I would use my own unique method to differentiate my product from the rest. I believe when you focus in on one thing you can really specialize and create a well known brand name easier. A brand name in the cannabis industry is huge. If you read about The Clear cartridges review article I wrote, you understand what I mean by this. I regularly seek out their brand name when making trips to the dispensary. If I do it right I could hopefully make a similar effect but with well grown all natural bud. Strains already differentiate one batch from another but the grower makes a far bigger difference then the strain does and that should also be made available to the consumer.
Like I said before, when the finances are there and I am in a good position to seize the opportunity this would be my dream business. Growing quality marijuana has been one of the most rewarding skills I’ve ever experienced and to make a career out of it would be a dream come true. Laws still stand in the way as there are no licences being issued for cultivation or dispensaries yet in Michigan. I would rather not move and do it here in my home state that I love the most. However if the opportunity comes, I’m not going to sit back and watch it go.
There is more than one reason why I believe this question should be addressed. However, there is one significant factor that led to the writing of this article. That would be the legalization of cannabis in the state of California. This means an additional 40 million people will be subject to different laws then the rest of us living in the same country. There is far more momentum from this passage then the 4 states before them. I really believe it’s going to be hard to ignore the countries most populous state make it clear we need reform in our laws. On top of that, at the same time Nevada, Massachusetts. and Maine all legalized it in similar manners that allowed the sale of it in many forms. That means 8 states allow at least possession of personal amounts and recreational shops to open in the states. Tax revenue will be collected from each one of these states although that will take a year or longer in the states that passed laws this past November.
All these positive changes that have taken place recently are still facing the same old powerful opponents that stand to lose tons of money if marijuana is allowed to be used and sold. I think it’s very clear that we will win as more and more people become aware of why exactly marijuana was even made illegal and how wrong it is to continue this war. It’s more of a matter of when this will happen. The DEA are dragging there feet harder then ever and have refused to even reschedule the drug to a lower category in their nonsense hierarchy of drugs. They do not want to lose their easiest target and the largest source of their funding and arrests. There really isn’t as much of a drug problem once you remove marijuana because that’s the key component to all their operations and their way of justifying thousands of jobs. Taking this all into consideration I say the chances it becomes legal for all 50 states this year is not very good. I hate to not be optimistic but we are still erasing the stigma to this day that 80 years of prohibition has caused and it may take a little more then this year and a big state decision to change federal law. Once they start seeing all the tax revenue coming from California in the years to come they may change their thinking.
Thankfully the topic of this article is becoming less relevant for more and more people across the United States as we slowly but surely reform our drug laws. Even though several states have legalized the plant for all adults and lots of others are protected from prosecution due to a medical cannabis laws. However, for some Americans it’s no safer than it was when President Nixon launched the war on drugs during the 1970’s. If you live in my home state of Michigan, the threat of arrest for marijuana is still very real if you’re not a registered patient. The good news is if you’re still liable for arrest in your home state for possessing/using marijuana, there are a number of things to drastically reduce your chances of being arrested.
The number one thing that I tell all my friends and people who use cannabis is do not smoke it in your car! This tip is so important, yet it’s ignored by countless smokers who enjoy a hot box or love smoking while on the go. If you plan on driving that car and you also plan on possessing marijuana you better make sure that it’s completely scent free before hitting the road again. Cops will immediately have the right to search you and they will find your marijuana if you had some on you. The thing that drives me crazy is that it is completely avoidable. Use a different car for the hot box or simply go for a walk and smoke outside. This the most valuable piece of advice and if you only do one thing to protect yourself from prosecution, don’t smoke in the car!
The next best tip I can give is too keep your stash at home and bring only what you know you will need to use with you in the car. If you followed the previous step, there should be no reason for the police to search your vehicle on the way to your destination. Never consent to a search because if they have a reason they wouldn’t have to ask for your permission. When your only carrying what you plan on using at your buddies house or for the weekend trip, then on the way back you are completely clean. This is 50% of your commute completely eliminated of risk just because you planned ahead. Marijuana is always safer a home and you are guaranteed far more protections then a vehicle which is subject to search at any time with the help of a drug dog. If marijuana always stayed at the home(highly unlikely) your chances of being busted are slim to none. Unless you are growing your own, then you are going to have to be driving with it to pick it up and bring it back at the minimum. Ask your connection to deliver if possible to eliminate this. Always remember the privacy of your home can not be compared with anything.
Unfortunately, for the vast majority of people in the remaining black market you will have to drive in possession of this plant. That’s where my final well known tip comes in, obey all traffic laws at all times when driving with cannabis. There are plenty of idiots on the road willing to draw the attention of the police away from you. Speeders are everywhere as well as people who do not signal or ride to close to the car in front of them. This should definitely comfort you knowing the probability is a lot lower. It’s definitely still there however and the number of cars on the road also makes a big difference. Driving home at 1 a.m from a friends house is going to draw more attention to you while following all the laws then 5p.m. on a Friday.
If you take everything into consideration discussed in the article i can guarantee that your chances of smoking in peace are increased. Until the laws are changed for everyone in this beautiful country, many of us are at risk. It’s sick and a crime to arrest people for putting something into their own bodies but it doesn’t mean our society won’t do it. Be safe out there!
Although it was November 8th of this year when Massachusetts voted to eliminate penalties for personal consumption and cultivation of marijuana, the law officially takes effect today. For legal sales, the soonest we’ll see stores opening is not until January of 2018 however. This is huge as Massachusetts is the first state on the east coast to implement a law like this. Maine also passed the ballot measure to legalize marijuana but it hasn’t taken effect yet. Keep in mind, these two states are very far away from the next closest recreational state of Colorado. This is definitely a victory worth celebrating and is the best example of an effective drug policy outside the western coastal area.
So what can the people of Massachusetts do exactly without going to prison or facing fines? What they should have always been able to do, cultivate and bring up to an oz of buds with them on their person. At home, the rule is 6 plants per person and total of 12 per household. You can also have up to 10 ounces kept at home. Prices at the recreational shops are sure to be ridiculously high when first starting out, so make sure to start your grow now and save some serious cash come 2018. Tax rates in the state are supposed to be low in comparison to other states like Colorado, Washington, and Oregon but the law of supply and demand the first opening months will guarantee some pricey buds.
For those of us that can’t grow because they don’t have the resources, knowledge, or time to put into an operation, there are no new options for obtaining cannabis. It’s illegal for people to sell and advertise on Craigslist and other sites so still go to your connection that you used before it became legal. There is no real legal way to purchase weed it’s suppose to just appear from nothing.(wouldn’t be so bad) Sticking to this method will not put the consumer at any additional risk instead of going to someone new who is openly advertising illegally. There have been plenty of cases on the news of police operations based on this idea in other states. This is a huge moment in history for personal freedom and I am just smiling thinking about the real crime that will be stopped, and the innocent lives that will be saved from the permanent damage of a criminal record. As long as you remember not to use in public or surpass the limits allowed, you can sleep at night knowing you’re no longer considered a criminal.
